On August 25, 2011, The University of Texas System Board of Regents gave administrative approval for the construction of a $42.7 million Academic and Performing Arts Center (APAC) at The University of Texas-Pan American.
The Performing Arts Center for the University of Texas-Pan America consists of the demolition of the existing Performing Arts Auditorium, remodel of existing Buildings B and C and the design and construction of a new Performing Arts Center that seats 1,000 people.
Sunland is a member of the design team for this project providing independent cost estimates and contract negotiations. The project delivery system was construction manager-at-risk (CM@R) with Spaw Glass, serving as the construction manager. As part of the team, Sunland worked with the designer ensuring cost presented by the CM@R was within industry standards.
The project consisted of the following:
- Building A – Performing Arts Auditorium, 60,215 SF of new construction, comprising a state-of-the-art facility, featuring a 1,000-seat theatre, and four rehearsal halls seating 95-100, and lobby area.
- Building B – Administrative Offices and classroom space, 20,386 SF renovation of second floor including safety and accessibility upgrades, new heating and cooling systems, roof, and interior architectural finishes.
- Building C – Rehearsal Hall/Rooms, 11,274 SF renovation consisting of demolishing and reconstruction of full interior including safety and accessibility upgrades, new heating and cooling systems, roof, and interior architectural finishes.
